Lextran Information for the Keeneland Fall 2011 Meet

Effective 10-7-2011 through 10-29-2011

You can ride the bus or trolley to Keeneland throughout the duration of the race meet!  Find the answers to your questions below.

1.  I'm going to the UK football game after a day at the races.  Can I set up my tailgate first and ride the trolley to Keeneland?

1.  I'm going to the UK football game after a day at the races.  Can I set up my tailgate first and ride the trolley to Keeneland?

Absolutely!  The Keeneland trolley departs from the downtown Transit Center, so set up at Commonwealth Stadium and catch the bus downtown. 

• Walk from Commonwealth Stadium to the corner of Nicholasville Road and Alumni Drive. 
• Wait for the bus at the shelter located in front of the Lexington Senior Center. 
• Ride the inbound Nicholasville Road bus (Route 5, schedule here) to the Transit Center.
• When you board the bus, pay your fare and request a transfer.  Regular adult fare is $1.  You may use a $1 bill, $5 bill, or monthly pass. 
• Please note the farebox cannot return cash or coins for fare paid with a $5 bill , but will issue a change card valid for use on all Lextran buses.

Once at the Transit Center, transfer to the Keeneland Trolley.  When you board, insert your transfer ticket into the farebox.  Now sit back and enjoy a quick ride to Keeneland!

When you're ready to return to the football action, it's simple.  Board the trolley in the location where you were dropped off on your initial trip.  Ride the trolley back downtown (request a transfer when you pay your fare).  Get off the trolley at the Lexington Center Shops and transfer to the Football Shuttle, which begins operating 3 hours before kick-off.  The Football Express provides you with a fast, direct route to the stadium.  If returning to Commonwealth Stadium before the football shuttle begins operation, you may ride the trolley to the Transit Center and transfer to the Route 5 Nicholasville Road bus.  When you're close to the stadium and ready to get off the bus, pull the cord near the window to alert the driver to a Stop Request.

3.  How do I take the trolley to College Scholarship Day on October 14th?

Be sure to attend Keeneland's annual College Scholarship Day!  All trips to Keeneland depart from the downtown Transit Center, located at 200 East Vine Street.

From the University of Kentucky campus, ride to the downtown Transit Center via:

• Route 5 Nicholasville Road
• Route 12 Leestown Road
• Both routes pick up from the steps on South Limestone, across from the Taylor Education Building and Arby's.

From the BCTC Cooper Campus or BCTC Regency Campus, ride to the downtown Transit Center via:

• Route 16 Southland/BCTC
• Please note Route 16 does not operate on Saturday or Sunday. 

From the Transylvania Campus, ride to the downtown Transit Center via:

• Route 4 Newtown Pike
• Route 6 North Broadway
• Route 7 North Limestone

Request a transfer when paying your fare ($1 per adult).  Once at the Transit Center, transfer to the Keeneland trolley where your transfer ticket serves as your fare.  If you have a Lextran Class Pass, it is valid for trips on all Lextran buses and trolleys--but be sure to have your student ID.

Keeneland's College Scholarship Day is an opportunity for college students to enjoy a day at the races and possibly walk away with a college scholarship or other great prizes.  This year, in honor of Keeneland's 75th Anniversary, Keeneland and the Kentucky Thoroughbred Association are giving away $20,000.  Students can enjoy live music by Elliot Collett; free snacks from Qdoba and Coke; prize drawings by Raising Cane's, Orange Leaf, Campus Quilts, Breeders' Cup, Vineyard Vines, Kennedy Book Store, Pazzo's, Barney Miller's, Fusion Tanning and Victoria's Secret.
